The Extreme Ops Smith & Wesson button-release tanto folder is a very popular DIY convertible knife*. It is a great manual knife (as shipped), but really works well when converted to automatic. This knife is a top choice of DIY automatic knife makers.

The size is 7.75" overall. The manual blade action is very smooth and the well-designed, patented spine safety gives you the secure lockup that you want post-conversion. The modern tanto blade is 3.3" inches long, made of 440A stainless steel and is blast finished and partially serrated. The aluminum handles are champagne finished and include extra grip milling. This knife comes stock with a pocket clip.
