Sheath and Holster Making Materials
Shop thermoform sheet, fabric wrap and leather for sheaths and holsters you mold, wet-form or wrap yourself. Forming sheet in KYDEX®, HOLSTEX® and BOLTARON® runs from .028 to .125 gauge in sizes from 8in x 8in to 2ft x 4ft, with EDC Wrap®, tanned leather hides, and CURV® and TEGRIS® composite sheet rounding out the range.
KYDEX® sheet covers haircell solid colors along with the metallic Liquid Metal and see-through Vapor lines, while HOLSTEX® sheet brings textures such as carbon fiber and a raised basketweave that stays sharp after forming. BOLTARON® is a value-priced alternative to both, with a haircell finish in Black, Coyote Brown, Olive Drab and other colors. Molding any of the three follows the same steps of heating, forming and cooling, and the sheath or holster keeps its fit once the sheet sets. For camo, woodgrain and flag designs, graphic sheets carry the pattern on KYDEX®, HOLSTEX® or BOLTARON®.
Two composites round out the sheet line, and neither thermoforms like KYDEX®. CURV® is a self-reinforced, 100% thermoplastic composite most often cut into flat components, and TEGRIS® is a lightweight composite for heavy-duty work that is pressed into panels or compression molded. Sheaths and holsters can also be covered or lined with EDC Wrap®, the CKK Industries line of adhesive-backed Cordura® and Airwave® fabric, MatchGrip™ rubber, Lamby Suede and printed loop. For a traditional build, leather comes as tanned cowhide and water buffalo hides in browns, tans, gray and black. With thermoform sheet, thinner gauges bend more easily while thicker ones form a stiffer shell, which is why the same sheet often comes in several gauges.
Torn between leather and thermoform sheet, or between two gauges? Contact us with the knife or gun you are fitting, and we will suggest a material, gauge and size for the sheath or holster.
