It is lightweight and easy to sand, shape, and form, but has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and doesn’t fall victim to any major shrinkage. The burl material is extremely rare and only comes from the most exotic areas of the tree's grain. It is very rare to have curly grain running fully through a redwood which is why board footage is more rare.
